Today, Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, and Julie Drury, Chair, Minister's Patient and Family Advisory Council presented three Minister's Medal awards to health care providers who went above and beyond to improve care for patients and families.
This year, a new award was introduced to recognize a patient, family member or caregiver who enhanced patient engagement in their community. The first ever Patient, Family, and Caregiver Award was presented to Margo Twohig from the Central Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), who has made valuable contributions to projects such as clinical recruitment practices, professional practices, quality recommendations, accreditation, quality improvement research, ethics, education programs and community awareness.
This year's Team Medal award went to the Hamilton Health Sciences' (HHS) Hospital Without Walls team from the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant LHIN, which has transformed where and how it provided care to vulnerable and under-served populations by working with partners to coordinate care and develop patient action plans, with the goal of improving overall care management.
The Individual Champion Minister's Medal was awarded to Regan Anderson, from the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant LHIN, who has gone above and beyond his leadership role at Wayside House of Hamilton and expanded his engagement with the addictions sector across Ontario by participating in numerous boards and committees.

14 Honour Roll members for their exceptional work in delivering high-quality health care for patients and families.

- The Minister’s Medal to honour excellence in health quality and safety is a competitive, annual recognition program that celebrates the collaborative efforts of Ontario’s health care providers in improving care for people in the province.
- This year marked the fifth year of the Minister’s Medal program.
- This year’s theme was Patients as Partners, which focused on addressing local health priorities and system issues by working with the people they matter to most – patients, caregivers and their families.
- The medals are awarded to one individual who has demonstrated leadership in focusing on quality; one team-based initiative that demonstrated commitment to collaboration, improvements in the health system and value for quality care; and, recognized a patient advisor who enhanced patient engagement within their community.
