June is Seniors’ Month in Ontario. The Regional Municipality of York is celebrating the important contributions seniors make in our communities under this year’s theme of “Living Your Best Life”.

The seniors’ population is changing. Over the next 15 years, the number of seniors living in York Region is projected to grow to over 310,000, with 21 per cent of the population expected to be 65 and older by 2031. This will impact many program areas, including long-term care, paramedic services, community planning, public health and transportation.

In anticipation of this growth, York Region has started to think about seniors differently. The York Region Seniors Strategy was developed to inform present and future planning and to manage and deliver services that meet the needs of residents regardless of their age or stage in life.

York Region is also committed to supporting people and organizations that help seniors stay active and lead healthy, engaged lives. For more information about healthy aging, making communities more age-friendly, and other health and injury prevention topics, visit the Healthy Aging section.

For more information and resources related to seniors programs and services, safety and security, age-friendly community planning and health and wellness, visit the Ministry of Seniors Affairs.
