Mackenzie Health has awarded a Richmond Hill-based tech firm the contract to help it realize its "smart hospital" vision for the future Vaughan hospital.

Compugen, a Canadian company headquartered in Richmond Hill with offices across the country and in the U.S, will provide and support an integrated, "secure" technology platform that includes unified communications (audio/video) as well as access to patient portals, community provider portals and home health tools, including patient electronic records, Mackenzie Health said in a news release.

The Vaughan hospital, expected to be completed in 2020, will be the first in Canada to feature fully integrated "smart technology, featuring systems and medical devices that can speak directly to each other," the release said.
