Gormley Church launches ESL, young mom programs

Richmond Hill church offers free programs starting Sept. 17

Richmond Hill Liberal

Two new community support group programs will launch Sept. 17 at Gormley Church.

At 9:30 a.m., registration will open for weekly Conversational ESL (English as a Second Language) sessions for adults.

Later that same day, a Young Mothers Support Group will hold its first monthly meeting at 12:30 p.m.

The aim of the free weekly adult ESL program is to help participants learn conversational English in a fun, comfortable setting and make new friends at the same time.

ESL sessions begin with a registration day on Sept. 17 at 9:30 a.m. and will continue every Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Each Saturday session will open with a topical discussion such as learning the national anthem, how to share the time and date and talking about the weather. Everyone will enjoy a social coffee and snack break, before sitting down in small groups to practise their conversational English.

Participants will also learn how to make Canadian dishes such as pizza, chili and muffins and there may be field trips to community events. There is no cost associated with this program. The sessions are for adults only and no childcare is provided.

For further details, contact the church office at 905-887-5846 or email esl@gormleychurch.org.

The Young Mothers Support Group meets once a month at Gormley Church, aiming to support young families. Free clothing and baby items will be offered, (diapers, wipes, formula, baby food), plus a lunch meal and emotional and spiritual support.

The program will also offer parenting, cooking and health workshops to help support families as they face the challenges of parenting.

The moms support group is free to participants and funded by Gormley Church. Childcare is provided. The group meets once a month, Saturdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Program dates are Sept. 17, Oct. 22, Nov. 12, Dec. 3, Jan. 14 and Feb. 4. For more details, contact the church office at 905-887-5846 or email youngmothers@gormleychurch.org.

Gormley Church is located at 120 Gormley Road West, in Richmond Hill, off Stouffville Road. For details about the church, visit www.gormleychurch.org
