Step Ahead to Fall Prevention: E-Learning Module

Training Program for Agency Staff, Personal Support Workers and Caregivers

Step Ahead is a training program facilitated by Public Health Nurses. The program prepares participants to safely coach and motivate older adults in the Home Support Exercise Program (HSEP) © and other fall prevention strategies. The program consists of two modules and certificates of participation are provided upon program completion.

Module 1
Fall Prevention – available in-person or online

  • Examines age related changes and modifiable risk factors associated with falls.
  • Enables caregivers to incorporate fall prevention strategies when working with older adults.


Online Training

  • You can choose to complete Module 1 training online at your own pace. Once completed, you have the option to register for Module 2 in-person training. Register for e-learning Module 1.


Module 2
The Home Support Exercise Program (HSEP) – available in-person only

  • Teaches 10 simple, progressive exercises proven to maintain strength, balance, and flexibility.
  • HSEP is an evidence based exercise program developed by the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging (CCAA).
  • CCAA is a leader in current research and program development for improved physical ability and healthy aging.
